Analysis of entrapped and free liquor to gain new insights into kraft pulping

Abstract Most of our knowledge on kraft pulping comes from studies dissolved lignin in the freely drainable black liquor and isolated residual pulp. However, entrapped delignified chips has been shown to differ significantly free liquor. The present study compared three fractions: free, lumen fiber wall was obtained by draining chips, separated centrifugation subsequent leaching. had lowest concentration hydrosulfide ions highest monovalent cations. molar mass content xylan. filling cavities. structures containing ?-O-4 linkages aliphatic hydroxyl groups. transfer rate probably restricted tortuosity chip.
